Before I got engaged I was definitely one of those girls who always said I’d never be fussy about my wedding day details. I was appalled at the cost of some of my friends weddings and I always thought that I’d never spend that much money on one day. Boy was I wrong. When I was proposed to that all went out the window! We immediately began researching prices of vendors that we admired and before we knew it the budget doubled, nearly tripled. It was pretty clear that we were going to have to make some cut backs and the first thing on the chopping block were invitations. Since Wes has a background in design and I in craft and fine art we decided we were more than capable to DIY it. We pulled inspiration from our venue, The Pelican Inn, and incorporated colors and textures from the surrounding environment. I really liked the concept of combining a bold type face with loose and fluid painterly accents. In a way, the contrasting elements represent our personalities. Wes is very type-centric. It’s always the first thing he points out in a magazine ad or billboard. Where as I am heavily image driven. After studying art and working in museums for several years I have grown to adore the simple stroke of paint brush. So there you have it, the first steps completed to our upcoming wedding. We hope you enjoy our labors.
